The Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) of ISRO in Bengaluru is recruiting four doctors as Medical Officer ‘SD’ (Group A, Pay Level 11) under Advertisement No. HSFC:02:RMT:2026, dated 9 October 2026. The posts are for MD specialists in General Medicine, Physiology and Aerospace Medicine. The work covers astronaut medical selection and health monitoring during training. All four posts are unreserved. The number of vacancies is provisional and can go up or down.

Can you apply?

  • Nationality: Indian nationals only.
  • Qualification: MBBS plus the MD (or DNB, for Post 01) in the discipline above.
  • Minimum standard: at least second class in MBBS and MD, with a compulsory rotatory internship.
  • Cut-off date: you must hold the qualification on 8 November 2026.
  • Registration: the qualification must be recognised and registered with the Medical Council of India, a State Medical Council or the National Medical Commission. If you are registered only with a State Medical Council, you must produce NMC registration at the time of joining.
  • Foreign degrees must be ratified by the National Medical Commission as equivalent to MBBS/MD. The proof is needed at the interview.
  • Not accepted: degrees through open and distance learning (ODL).
  • Age: no upper age limit.
  • PwBD candidates (40% or more disability) can apply even though the posts are not identified for them, and are selected on general merit.
  • Government and PSU employees must bring a No Objection Certificate in original to the interview. Without it you cannot take the interview and no travel allowance is paid.

What the job involves

The advertisement gives an outline of the work for each post:

  • Post 01, General Medicine:
    • clinical evaluation and emergency care across cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, renal and neurological systems;
    • reading ECG, imaging and lab reports;
    • designing studies on how the body responds to stress and environment;
    • tracking how astronauts adapt during training.
  • Post 02, Physiology:
    • baseline physiological profiling of astronauts;
    • monitoring their adaptation in hypobaric, hyperbaric and centrifuge training;
    • tracking in-flight adaptation through telemetry;
    • working with sports medicine on exercise countermeasures;
    • leading post-flight recovery studies.
  • Post 03, Aerospace Medicine:
    • leading astronaut medical selection and certification boards;
    • defining health standards and protocols;
    • monitoring crew health in training;
    • acting as Crew Flight Surgeon for in-flight medical support;
    • supervising post-flight rehabilitation.

HSFC can post selected candidates to any ISRO or Department of Space centre in India. The posts are temporary but likely to continue.

Application fee and refund

Every candidate first pays Rs 750 through the BharatKosh / NTRP portal, and attaches the receipt to the application. The real application fee is Rs 250. The rest is refunded only if you appear for the interview:

  • No refund if you are not shortlisted or do not attend the interview.
  • The refund goes only to the bank account you give in the application, so enter the account holder name, account number, IFSC, bank and branch correctly.
  • Any service charge on the payment portal is yours to pay.
  • The fee must be paid by 8 November 2026.

How to apply (by post)

  1. Download the application form (Annexure-I) from the HSFC/ISRO website (hsfc.gov.in).
  2. Type the application. Handwritten applications are not accepted. Fill every column, because incomplete forms are rejected.
  3. Paste a recent colour passport photo (no older than 6 months), 7 cm high × 5 cm wide, with a plain white background and your full face visible. No selfies and no black-and-white photos. Sign in blue ink in the box below the photo.
  4. Pay Rs 750 on BharatKosh/NTRP and attach the receipt.
  5. Attach copies of your MBBS and MD/DNB certificates and mark lists, internship completion, medical registration, age proof, experience certificates and any category or PwBD certificate.
  6. Put it in a sealed envelope marked “APPLICATION TO THE POST OF MEDICAL OFFICER – SD, POST CODE NO: __”, with your post code filled in.
  7. Send it by ordinary post to:

  1. After HSFC receives it, a registration number is emailed to you as your acknowledgement.

More than one post: send a separate application with its own fee for each post code. If you send more than one application for the same post code, only the last one received counts.

Selection

  1. Screening of applications to shortlist candidates. Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee a call.
  2. Personal interview. The final selection is based only on interview performance. You can choose to take the interview in Hindi.
  3. Medical fitness before joining.

The e-admit card and all interview messages come by email. At the interview, bring:

  • a printed e-admit card (a soft copy on your phone is not accepted);
  • all original certificates;
  • an original government photo ID;
  • an NOC, if you are employed.

Travel allowance: outstation candidates who clear document verification get to-and-fro second-class rail or non-AC bus fare (whichever is less) by the shortest route, with proof of journey.

Rejection traps

  • Using speed post, courier, hand delivery or email. The advertisement says ordinary post only. Applications delivered by hand or emailed get no registration number and are not considered.
  • Posting late. The application must reach HSFC by 8 November, a Sunday.
  • A handwritten form, or any blank column.
  • A wrong photo: a selfie, black-and-white, blurred, a non-white background, or the wrong size.
  • No BharatKosh receipt attached, or the fee paid after 8 November.
  • Wrong bank details, which means no refund.
  • An ODL degree, or MBBS/MD below second class.
  • A foreign degree without NMC ratification at the interview.
  • Turning up without an NOC if you are a government or PSU employee.
  • A phone screenshot of the admit card instead of a printout.
  • Canvassing in any form, which disqualifies you.
