Online application opens 8 October 2026
Last date to apply 6 November 2026, 23:59
Last date to pay the fee (for submitted applications) 8 November 2026
Correction (modification) window, Rs 250 each time 9 – 18 November 2026
CBT, document verification and medical dates To be announced on the RRB websites

The city of your exam is announced about 10 days before the CBT, and the e-call letter about 4 days before.

The four posts, pay and vacancies

Post Pay level (7th CPC) Initial pay Medical standard Vacancies
Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor 6 Rs 35,400 B-2 127
Goods Train Manager 5 Rs 29,200 A-2 2,750
Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist 5 Rs 29,200 C-2 300
Senior Clerk cum Typist 5 Rs 29,200 C-2 371
Total 3,548

All four need the same qualification: a degree from a recognised university, or its equivalent. Goods Train Manager has more than three-quarters of all the posts, but it also has the strictest eyesight standard. Check that before you put it first in your preferences.

By community, the 3,548 posts break up as UR 1,517, OBC-NCL 873, SC 553, EWS 305 and ST 300. Of these, 351 are reserved for ex-servicemen, and there are PwBD vacancies for VI (25), LD (18), HI (16) and MD (6). The vacancies are provisional and can go up or down.

Can you apply? Five checks

1. Degree in hand by 6 November 2026

  • You need a degree from a recognised university (or its equivalent) on or before 6 November 2026.
  • Final-year students waiting for results cannot apply. The notice says this in capital letters.
  • If your degree certificate is dated after 6 November, keep the consolidated marksheet showing the date the result was declared (or all semester marksheets with declaration dates) for document verification.

2. Age: 18 to 33 on 1 January 2027

The notice gives these date-of-birth limits (both dates included):

Category Born on or after Born on or before
UR / EWS 2 January 1994 1 January 2009
OBC-NCL 2 January 1991 1 January 2009
SC / ST 2 January 1989 1 January 2009

Other relaxations raise only the upper limit. The “born on or after” dates below are our arithmetic, using the same method as the notice’s own table. Check your category against para 5.2 of the notice before relying on them.

Category Upper age limit Born on or after
PwBD (UR / EWS) 43 2 January 1984
PwBD (OBC-NCL) 46 2 January 1981
PwBD (SC / ST) 48 2 January 1979
Serving railway staff / substitutes, 3+ years’ service (UR / EWS) 40 2 January 1987
Same (OBC-NCL) 43 2 January 1984
Same (SC / ST) 45 2 January 1982
Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women, not remarried (UR / EWS) 35 2 January 1992
Same (OBC-NCL) 38 2 January 1989
Same (SC / ST) 40 2 January 1987

Ex-servicemen get 3 years (UR/EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL) or 8 years (SC/ST) after deducting their service. If you qualify on more than one ground, you get the single largest relaxation; they do not add up. SC, ST and OBC candidates applying against UR vacancies get no age relaxation.

Four quick examples

  • Born 15 March 1995, any category: eligible.
  • Born 10 December 1992: not eligible as UR or EWS (before 2 January 1994), but eligible as OBC-NCL (after 2 January 1991).
  • Born 1 January 2009: eligible. That is the last date allowed.
  • Born 3 January 2009: not eligible. You are too young on 1 January 2027.

The date of birth that counts is the one on your Class 10 (SSC/Matriculation) certificate. It cannot be changed later, and any mismatch disqualifies you.

3. Eyesight: check the medical standard of each post

Standard Posts Vision required
A-2 Goods Train Manager Distant 6/9, 6/9 and near Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses. Must also pass colour, binocular, night and myopic vision tests.
B-2 Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor Distant 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (lens power up to 4D). Near Sn 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses.
C-2 Junior Accounts Assistant, Senior Clerk Distant 6/12, nil with or without glasses. Near Sn 0.6 combined, with or without glasses.
  • Had Lasik or other eye surgery to correct your power? You are not eligible for Goods Train Manager (A-2). You can still be eligible for B-2 and C-2 posts, under the conditions in Annexure VII(A) of the notice.
  • If you fail the medical standard of a post, you are not given another post instead. Put only the posts you can pass in your preferences.

4. Nationality

Indian citizens can apply. So can subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, and certain persons of Indian origin who have migrated to settle permanently in India, but they need a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India by document verification.

5. Who cannot apply

  • Anyone currently debarred by an RRB or RRC.
  • Anyone dismissed from service by a central or state government, PSU or other government body.
  • Anyone who submits more than one application for this notice.

Government employees, including those on probation, can apply directly after informing their employer, but must produce a no-objection certificate (NOC) at document verification.

Which RRB? Vacancies by board

You choose one RRB, then rank the posts and zones inside it. You cannot change the RRB later, and the notice says a transfer to another railway is not registered until you have completed 5 to 10 years of service. Choose where you are willing to work.

RRB CCTS GTM JAA Sr Clerk Total
Ahmedabad – 14 – 5 19
Ajmer 4 236 35 29 304
Bengaluru 3 301 10 32 346
Bhopal 2 135 12 8 157
Bhubaneswar 1 128 7 10 146
Bilaspur 1 526 14 1 542
Chandigarh – 6 25 28 59
Chennai 6 72 20 43 141
Gorakhpur 3 13 1 13 30
Guwahati 18 45 30 11 104

Kolkata 7 177 76 72 332

Secunderabad 10 31 5 10 56
Siliguri 5 281 – 5 291
Thiruvananthapuram 1 21 – 3 25
All RRBs 127 2,750 300 371 3,548

CCTS = Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor, GTM = Goods Train Manager, JAA = Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Sr Clerk = Senior Clerk cum Typist. From Annexure B of the notice. A dash means no vacancy for that post at that RRB. Community-wise and railway-zone-wise splits for each RRB are in Annexure B.

Two things worth noticing:

  • If you cannot clear the A-2 eyesight standard, Goods Train Manager is out, and the boards with the most of the other three posts are Kolkata (155), Mumbai (74), Prayagraj (69), Chennai (69), Ajmer (68) and Guwahati (59).
  • Shortlisting at every stage is done RRB by RRB, so a board with few vacancies in your category means fewer seats to compete for, not an easier exam.

Fee and refund

Category Fee Refund after appearing in CBT-1
All other candidates (for example, male UR, OBC-NCL or EWS candidates) Rs 500 Rs 400, minus bank charges
SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities, EBC Rs 250 Rs 250, minus bank charges
  • Pay online only (net banking, debit or credit card, UPI), by 8 November 2026. An application without the fee is rejected.
  • The refund goes to the bank account linked to your Aadhaar. You validate Aadhaar during the application and the linked account is shown for confirmation. If none is linked, the portal sends you to NPCI to link one. You may use a family member’s Aadhaar-seeded account if you have none.
  • EBC is not OBC or EWS. EBC means annual family income below Rs 50,000. It gives only the fee concession, not job reservation, and you need a valid EBC certificate (Annexure IIIA), BPL card, Izzat MST or similar certificate dated on or before 6 November 2026.
  • Minority candidates claiming the concession must give an affidavit (Annexure IV) at document verification.

How selection works

The stages are CBT-1 → CBT-2 → document verification and medical examination. There is no typing test this time: the notice says the typing skill test for Senior Clerk and Junior Accounts Assistant has been dispensed with, although typing skill will be checked after joining.

CBT-1 (screening, common for all four posts)

Section Questions
General Awareness 40
Mathematics 30
General Intelligence and Reasoning 30
Total 100 in 90 minutes

CBT-2

Section Questions
General Awareness 50
Mathematics 35
General Intelligence and Reasoning 35
Total 120 in 90 minutes
  • Each question carries one mark, and one-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer. A blank costs nothing.
  • Eligible PwBD candidates who use a scribe get 120 minutes instead of 90.
  • Minimum marks to be considered: UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL and SC 30%, ST 25%. PwBD candidates can get up to 2 marks of relaxation if there are not enough of them for reserved seats.
  • From CBT-1, about 15 times the community-wise vacancies of each RRB are called for CBT-2.
  • From CBT-2, candidates equal to the number of vacancies (1:1) are called for document verification and the medical.
  • Ties go to the older candidate. If the dates of birth are also the same, the alphabetical order of the given name (not surname) decides.
  • Marks are normalised when a CBT runs in several shifts.
  • You can take the CBTs in English, Hindi or one of 13 other languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Selected candidates are allotted a post and zone by merit and preference. Once allotted, you lose the right to be considered for any other post in the same pay level.

How to apply

The application link is on rrbapply.gov.in, and notices appear on the unified RRB website, rrb.indianrailways.gov.in.

  1. Create an account, or log in. If you created an account for any RRB notice in 2024, 2025 or 2026, use the same login. Otherwise create one with your own mobile number and email. Nothing in the Create an Account form can be changed later, including the mobile number and email.
  2. Verify your identity with Aadhaar or DigiLocker. The notice strongly advises it. Candidates who use other photo IDs face much stricter checks at every stage.
  3. Fill the form with your name, parents’ names and date of birth exactly as on your Class 10 certificate.
  4. Choose your RRB, then rank the posts and zones you are eligible for and willing to take. A post you leave out is treated as “not interested”.
  5. Choose your exam language from the 15 offered.
  6. Take the live photo. You do not upload a photo. Use a webcam or front camera with a plain white background, wear plain dark (non-white) clothing, no cap, mask or glasses, eyes open, face centred and filling at least half the frame.
  7. Upload your signature: black ink on white paper, in running (joined) handwriting, not capital letters. JPG/JPEG, 30–49 KB, at least 140 × 60 pixels, scanned at 100 DPI or more.
  8. SC/ST candidates wanting the free sleeper-class railway pass upload their certificate as a PDF under 400 KB.
  9. Pay the fee by 8 November 2026 and save the confirmation. The application counts only after the payment is confirmed by email and SMS.
  10. Need to correct something? Use the modification window, 9 to 18 November 2026, at Rs 250 per correction. Your chosen RRB and the Create an Account details cannot be changed. Switching from a Rs 250 fee category to a Rs 500 one also means paying the Rs 250 difference.

Common Services Centres (CSCs) can help you apply. For problems with the application, the helpline is rrb.help@csc.gov.in or 9592001188 / 01725653333 (10 am to 5 pm, working days).

Mistakes that get applications rejected

  • More than one application, to the same or different RRBs. All of them are rejected and you can be debarred from future RRB and RRC exams.
  • Applying while awaiting your degree result.
  • Date of birth different from your Class 10 certificate.
  • A photo that breaks the rules: a picture of a printed photo, closed eyes, cap or glasses, a coloured background.
  • A signature that breaks the rules: capital letters, coloured ink, a thumb impression, someone else’s signature, or an unclear scan.
  • An unpaid fee by 8 November.
  • An address you cannot prove. At document verification you must show proof of the present address you entered, such as a rent agreement, electricity bill or bank passbook in your or your parents’ name.
  • Choosing Goods Train Manager with glasses or after Lasik. You will fail the A-2 medical and get no other post.

Documents to keep ready

You do not upload certificates now, but you must show the originals, with two sets of self-attested photocopies, at document verification:

  • Class 10 certificate (for date of birth) and degree certificate or marksheets with the result date.
  • OBC-NCL: certificate in Annexure II format, issued on or after 1 April 2026 and not later than 6 November 2026, plus the self-declaration in Annexure IIA. Your caste must be in the central OBC list.
  • EWS: Income and Asset Certificate (Annexure III) for financial year 2025-26, valid on 6 November 2026. Family income must be below Rs 8 lakh.
  • SC/ST: certificate in Annexure I format.
  • PwBD: disability certificate issued through the UDID portal, with the right sub-category (LD, HI, VI, OD or MD) chosen in the application. It cannot be changed later.
  • Ex-servicemen: discharge papers and the declarations in Annexures VI and VI(A).
  • Government employees: NOC from the employer.
  • Present address proof in your or your parents’ name.
