Total 686 258 167 414 163 1,688 162

Our calculation: we added up every RRB and zone row in Annexure B. Each post row matches the post total in the notice, and the bottom row matches the notice’s own all-RRB grand total. Ex-Servicemen (ExSM) posts are counted within the community figures, not in addition to them. Shortlisting is done RRB by RRB, so the RRB table below shows the seats you actually compete for.

Can you apply? Four checks

1. 12th pass, with the result already out

You need 12th (+2) or its equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate, passed on or before 13 November 2026. If your result is still awaited, you cannot apply.

The 50% rule does not apply to SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates, or to anyone who holds a qualification higher than 12th. A graduate with 45% in 12th, for example, is eligible.

2. Age: 18 to 30 on 1 January 2027

Category Date of birth must fall between (both dates included)
UR and EWS 2 January 1997 and 1 January 2009
OBC-NCL (+3 years) 2 January 1994 and 1 January 2009
SC and ST (+5 years) 2 January 1992 and 1 January 2009

Further relaxations:

  • PwBD: 10 years (UR/EWS), 13 years (OBC-NCL) and 15 years (SC/ST).
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3, 6 or 8 years after deducting their service.
  • Serving Group C and erstwhile Group D railway staff with 3 years’ service: up to age 40, 43 or 45.
  • Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women not remarried: up to age 35, 38 or 40.

If you qualify on more than one ground, you get the highest single relaxation; they don’t add up. SC, ST and OBC candidates applying against UR vacancies get no age relaxation. The date of birth you enter must match your 10th certificate.

3. Eyesight: check the post’s medical standard

Standard Posts Vision
A-3 Trains Clerk Distant 6/9, 6/9 and near Sn 0.6, 0.6, with or without glasses (lenses up to 2D). Must pass colour, binocular, night and myopic vision tests. Lasik or similar surgery not allowed.
B-2 Commercial cum Ticket Clerk Distant 6/9, 6/12 and near Sn 0.6, 0.6, with or without glasses (lenses up to 4D)
C-2 Accounts Clerk and Junior Clerk cum Typist Distant 6/12, nil and near Sn 0.6 combined, with or without glasses

If you fail the medical standard for a post, you are not offered a different post.

4. Nationality and PwBD suitability

You must be an Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or belong to the other categories listed in the notice (those need a certificate of eligibility). Each post is suitable for some disability categories and not others; check Annexure A of the notice before you choose. Trains Clerk is not open to candidates with visual impairment.

Which RRB? Vacancies by board

You apply to one RRB only and rank the zones and posts within it. The RRB cannot be changed later. The notice also says requests to transfer to another railway are not registered until you have served 5 to 10 years.

RRB CCTC ACCT JCCT Trains Clerk Total
Ahmedabad 1 – 18 7 26
Ajmer 47 25 52 – 124

Thiruvananthapuram 59 – 11 5 75
All RRBs 700 200 600 188 1,688

CCTC = Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, ACCT = Accounts Clerk cum Typist, JCCT = Junior Clerk cum Typist. From Annexure B of the notice; a dash means no vacancy. Each row adds up to the RRB total printed in the notice. Community-wise and zone-wise splits are in Annexure B.

For Andhra Pradesh and Telangana candidates: RRB Secunderabad has 72 posts. They are 60 CCTC and 8 JCCT posts in South Coast Railway (SCoR), and 3 ACCT posts and 1 Trains Clerk post in South Central Railway (SCR).

Shortlisting is done RRB by RRB, so choose the board where you are willing to work, not the one you think is easiest.

Fee and refund

Category Fee Refund after appearing in CBT-1
General (UR, OBC-NCL, EWS men) Rs 500 Rs 400
SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities, EBC Rs 250 Rs 250

Bank charges are deducted from refunds. The fee is paid online only (net banking, card or UPI).

  • Refund account: refunds go only to the bank account seeded with your Aadhaar. The form shows that account for you to confirm. If you don’t have one, you can link a family member’s Aadhaar-seeded account.
  • EBC: means an annual family income below Rs 50,000. It is a fee concession only, not a reservation, and is different from OBC and EWS. You need an EBC certificate (Annexure III A), a BPL card or an Izzat MST issued on or before 13 November 2026.
  • Minority: the fee waiver needs an affidavit (Annexure IV) at document verification.

How selection works

Stage Questions Time General Awareness Mathematics Reasoning
CBT-1 (screening) 100 90 min 40 30 30
CBT-2 120 90 min 50 35 35
  • Negative marking: one-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in both CBTs. PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe get 120 minutes.
  • Minimum marks: UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL and SC 30%, ST 25%. PwBD candidates may get 2 marks’ relaxation if there’s a shortage.
  • CBT-1 shortlisting: 15 times the community-wise vacancies of each RRB go through to CBT-2, ranked on normalised marks.
  • CBT-2 merit: decides who is called for document verification and the medical, at 1:1 with the vacancies.
  • No typing test: the typing skill test is dispensed with for Accounts Clerk and Junior Clerk cum Typist in this CEN. Typing skill is checked after joining.
  • Tie-break: the older candidate ranks higher. If the dates of birth are the same, alphabetical order of the given name decides.

The CBT can be taken in English, Hindi or 13 regional languages, including Telugu.

Mistakes that get applications rejected

  • More than one application, whether to the same RRB or to different ones. All of them are rejected and you can be debarred from future RRB and RRC exams.
  • Applying with your 12th result still awaited.
  • A date of birth or name that differs from your 10th certificate.
  • A signature in block capitals, in non-black ink, or on a non-white background.
  • An EBC certificate dated after 13 November 2026.
  • Opting for Trains Clerk after Lasik surgery: A-3 posts don’t allow it, and you won’t be offered another post.
