Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released the detailed Centralised Employment Notification (CEN No. 03/2026) to fill 119 Section Controller vacancies in Indian Railways operations cadre. Graduate candidates aged 20 to 33 years (as on 1 July 2026) may apply online from 15 July 2026 to 14 August 2026 exclusively through the official RRB application portal.

Apply LIVE from 15 Jul 2026 · Last date: 14 Aug 2026 (23:59) · Posts: 119 · Pay: Level 6 — ₹35,400 basic · Selection: CBT → CBAT → DV → Medical (A-2)

Section Controller is a safety-critical traffic regulation post — not a workshop or technical trade role. Railways shortlist through a Computer Based Test (CBT) and then a mandatory Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) before document verification. This guide covers eligibility, zone-wise seats, exam pattern, fees, and step-by-step application based on the official CEN 03/2026 PDF.

What Does a Section Controller Do?

A Section Controller works in Indian Railways Operations / Transportation and manages train movement within an assigned rail section. Core responsibilities include:

  • Regulating precedence, crossings, and block working on the section
  • Coordinating with station masters, loco pilots, and guards for safe traffic flow
  • Operating control office systems linked to signalling installations
  • Handling late running, detentions, and disruption management in real time

Because the role directly affects passenger and freight safety, RRB mandates CBAT (aptitude testing) in addition to academic screening — high CBT marks alone do not guarantee selection.

Preparation Strategy

For CBT: Practice 60-minute timed mocks with 100 questions. Focus on data interpretation, logical puzzles, and reading comprehension — these carry significant weight. Revise basic arithmetic and railway general awareness (zones, terminology, current affairs last 6 months).

For CBAT: Start preparation before CBT results — aptitude test disqualifies many high scorers. Use official RDSO psychology practice material. Train concentration, pattern recognition, and reaction speed daily.

Qualifying vs. competitive marks: Meeting CBT cut-off only enters the CBAT pool. For final merit, aim well above minimum — only 119 candidates receive appointment letters nationwide.
