Qualification

Post Qualification
Navik (General Duty) Class 12 passed with Maths and Physics, from a board recognised by COBSE
Navik (Domestic Branch) Class 10 passed, from a board recognised by COBSE
Hygienist-I Matriculation or ITI or equivalent, from a board recognised by the central or state government
Yantrik Class 10 + an AICTE-approved 3 or 4-year diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics/Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering; or Class 10 and 12 + a 2 or 3-year AICTE-approved diploma in those branches
  • The advertisement lists the equivalent diploma names accepted for each Yantrik branch, for example Marine Engineering and Production Engineering for Mechanical, and Electronics and Communication for Electronics.
  • Open-school certificates from institutes not recognised by AICTE/COBSE are not accepted.
  • You must enter the marks of every subject exactly as on your marksheet. Wrong or missing marks cancel the application.
  • Yantrik candidates without the original diploma by Stage-II can bring a provisional certificate signed by the college head, but the original diploma is compulsory at Stage-III.

Age (date of birth window, both dates included)

Post Born between
Navik (GD), both batches 1 November 2005 and 1 May 2009
Yantrik (01/27) 1 May 2005 and 1 May 2009

If your zone or post has no vacancy for your category, you can apply as unreserved, but then you get no age, pass-mark, fee or travel concession.

Who is not eligible

  • Persons with any kind of disability. The Coast Guard is an armed force, and the advertisement says such candidates cannot apply.
  • Candidates withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any government service training establishment.
  • Candidates whose candidature was cancelled for malpractice or misbehaviour in earlier Coast Guard batches.
  • You may not marry or keep family with you during training.

Anyone arrested, convicted, or facing an FIR or criminal case must disclose it in the application. Hiding it cancels the candidature, even after enrolment.

Check these before you pay. The advertisement says no waiver is given on medical standards.

Standard Requirement
Height Men 157 cm, women 152 cm. Up to 5 cm less for candidates domiciled in Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Garhwal, Kumaon and Sikkim, and for Gorkhas. Up to 2 cm less for Ladakh, Lakshadweep & Minicoy and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

If you claim height relaxation, give your domicile certificate to the medical officer. Without it, the relaxation is not given. Get your ears cleaned and any tartar removed from your teeth before the medical.

Zone-wise selection for Navik (GD) men

Vacancies for male Navik (GD) are split across five zones, with a separate merit list for each. Your zone comes from your domicile certificate, which male Navik (GD) candidates must upload while applying. All other posts, including female Navik (GD), are selected on an all-India basis.

Zone States and UTs
North Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh
West Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu
East West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim, Odisha
South Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep
Central Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar

Where a state issues both a domicile and a resident certificate, only the domicile certificate is accepted. The zone-wise vacancy figures appear during registration.

Selection: four stages

You must qualify in every stage. Your final merit depends only on your Stage-I marks, once you clear all of Stage-II.

Stage-I: computer-based exam

  • 100 questions, 1 mark each, in 1 hour. Hindi and English, multiple choice.
  • No negative marking. Attempt every question.
  • Pass marks: 40 for UR, EWS and OBC; 35 for SC and ST.
  • Scores are normalised if the exam runs in several shifts. The syllabus is on the portal.
  • Identity check before the exam: bring the original ID you uploaded, a printout of the e-admit card and two passport photos. Your left-thumb biometric is recorded, so do not apply mehndi or wax on your hands.

Stage-II: at a Coast Guard recruitment centre (1–2 days)

You pick your date and centre online on a first-come, first-served basis, after uploading extra documents. Miss the window and your candidature is cancelled.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT), done in one go without a break:

1.6 km run Squats (uthak-baithak) Push-ups Bent-knee sit-ups
Men 6 min 30 sec 20 15 15
Women 8 min 15 10 10

Then an Assessment & Adaptability Test (qualifying only, and used to break ties), document verification and the recruitment medical. If you are found unfit, you can appeal at the designated military hospital within 14 days.

Stage-III: at INS Chilka (1–2 days)

Aadhaar-based identity check (changes to your Aadhaar name, date of birth or photo in the last two years are scrutinised), document verification, pre-enrolment medical, and submission of police verification and other forms. You reach INS Chilka at your own expense.

Stage-IV: document authentication

Your certificates are verified with the boards, universities and state authorities that issued them. If any is not genuine, you are removed from service.

Ties are broken first by age (older candidate ranks higher), then by Assessment Test marks.

Travel allowance: SC/ST candidates who are not government employees get second-class train or government bus fare for Stage-II only, if their home is more than 30 km away. Bring original tickets, a cancelled cheque and the travel form, and claim it at Stage-II itself.

Application fee

Category Fee
UR, EWS, OBC Rs 550
SC, ST (applying in SC/ST vacancies) Nil

Pay online by net banking, Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/debit card or UPI. The fee is not refunded, and a duplicate payment for the same application is not returned either. If money is deducted but the payment fails, wait up to 15 working days for an automatic refund.

  4. Upload your signature, date-of-birth proof (Class 10 marksheet or birth certificate) and ID proof. Upload Aadhaar first if you have it.
