Some sports list exact events or weights, for example in judo the women’s posts are in the 48, 52, 57, 63, 70 and 78 kg classes and the men’s in 60, 66, 73 and 81 kg.

Can you apply?

  • Nationality: Indian citizen. Subjects of Nepal and Bhutan can also apply.
  • Education: Matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent from a recognised board. If your board is not a Central or State Board, you must also show the government notification declaring it equivalent for central government jobs.
  • Sports: a medal, a place up to 3rd, or (for international events only) participation, between 1 January 2024 and 1 November 2026, at one of these levels:
    • International: with clearance from the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
    • National: representing a State or UT at Senior or Junior Nationals run by a recognised National Sports Federation, or at the National Games run by the Indian Olympic Association, with a medal or place up to 3rd.
    • Inter-University: representing a university in an AIU / Inter University Sports Board competition or the Khelo India University Games, with a medal or place up to 3rd in the finals.
    • Khelo India: representing a State or UT at the Khelo India Youth Games (above-18 age category) or Khelo India Winter Games, with a medal or place up to 3rd in the finals.
  • Not open to: persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen.
  • Government employees need a No Objection Certificate (Annexure II) from their employer, which must be submitted in original at documentation.

You must hold all certificates on the date of recruitment. If you are still waiting for a sports or education certificate on that day, you are not eligible.

Age: 18 to 23 on 1 November 2026

Category Relaxation for sportspersons Top age
Unreserved / EWS / OBC 5 years 28
OBC (non-creamy layer) 5 + 3 = 8 years 31
SC / ST 5 + 5 = 10 years 33

The top ages in the last column are our arithmetic from the notice’s table.

  • Departmental candidates with at least 3 years’ continuous central government service on the closing date can apply up to 40 years (UR/EWS/OBC/OBC-NCL) or 45 years (SC/ST), under the conditions the notice lists.
  • Date of birth proof: only the date in your Matriculation or Higher Secondary certificate is accepted, and no later change is allowed.
  • OBC (NCL) relaxation needs a non-creamy layer certificate obtained within three years before 1 November 2026, in the Annexure III format, plus the Annexure III(A) declaration.
  • Relaxation is given only if the caste certificate is in the prescribed format (Annexures III to VI). Certificates in any other format are not accepted.

The notice does not print a birth-date window. If you are close to the limit, for example born in late 2002 or late 2003, confirm on the helpline before paying the fee.

How marks are given

Your merit-list score is the marks for one achievement only: the single medal or level of participation that gives you the most marks between 1 January 2024 and 1 November 2026. Extra medals do not add up. The minimum is 10 marks for every category.

Competition Gold Silver Bronze Participation
Olympic Games (Summer and Winter) 100 92 84 75
Youth Olympic Games 95 87 79 70
World Championship / World Cup (every 4 years) 90 82 74 65
Asian Games 85 77 69 60
Commonwealth Games 80 72 64 55
World Championship / World Cup (every 2 years) 75 67 59 50
World Championship / World Cup (yearly) 70 62 54 45
Junior World Championship / Junior World Cup 65 57 49 40
Asian Championship (every 4 years) 60 52 44 35
Asian Championship (every 2 years) 55 47 39 30
Asian Championship (yearly) 50 42 34 25
Junior Asian Championship 45 37 29 20
World University Games 40 32 24 18
Other international championships cleared by MYAS, with more than 7 countries 35 27 19 15
National Games / Senior National Championship 30 22 17 Not eligible
Junior National Championship 25 18 15 Not eligible
Inter-University / Khelo India University Games 20 13 11 Not eligible
Khelo India Youth Games / Khelo India Winter Games 15 12 10 Not eligible

Two examples, worked out from the table:

  • A woman who won silver at the Junior Nationals in 2025 and bronze at the Khelo India Youth Games in 2024 is scored only on the silver: 18 marks.
  • A man who took part in the Asian Games in 2026 without a medal gets 60 marks, more than a Senior National gold (30).

If two candidates tie: the higher marks go first. If they have the same international achievement, the better national achievement goes first. After that the younger candidate goes first, then alphabetical order of name in English.

Certificate format matters. Each level needs its own form signed by the right authority:

Competition Signed by Form
International Secretary of the National Federation of the sport Form-1
National President/Secretary of the IOA, Secretary of the National Federation, or Secretary of the State Association Form-2
Inter-University Dean of Sports or officer in charge of sports of the university Form-3
Khelo India University / Youth / Winter / Para Games Officer designated by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Form-5

ITBPF verifies certificates with SAI or the national federation for international events, the IOA for the National Games, the national federations for National Championships, AIU for inter-university events and SAI for Khelo India events, and checks results on the official websites. An offer of appointment is conditional on the certificate being genuine.

Physical and medical standards

Height and chest

Group Men height Women height Men chest (unexpanded)
General standard 170 cm 157 cm 80 cm
All Scheduled Tribes 162.5 cm 150 cm 76 cm
ST candidates of the North-Eastern States 157 cm 147.5 cm 76 cm
ST candidates of Left-Wing Extremism affected districts 160 cm 147.5 cm 76 cm
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas; Assam, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Ladakh 165 cm 155 cm 78 cm

Gorkha Territorial Administration (Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and listed mouzas) 157 cm 152.5 cm 77 cm
  • Men also need a chest expansion of at least 5 cm in every group. Women have no chest test.
  • For the ST rows, the chest column uses the notice’s single “all Scheduled Tribes” chest figure, since the chest table has no separate NE or LWE ST rows.
  • To claim any lower height or chest, you must send the Annexure VI certificate from the district authorities with your application. Without it the claim is not considered.
  • Weight must be in proportion to height and age (chart in Annexure I of the notice). Being under or over weight does not stop you at the PST; the medical officer decides at the medical exam.

Eyesight

  • Distance vision 6/6 (better eye) and 6/9 (worse eye) without glasses or lenses. No correction of any kind is allowed.
  • Near vision N6 and N9. Colour vision CP III (Ishihara). Binocular vision is required.
  • A colour-blind person is not eligible.

Other medical conditions

  • No knock knee, flat foot, varicose veins or squint.
  • The medical exam follows the MHA uniform guidelines of May 2015 for CAPF recruitment.

Tattoos

Allowed only on the inner side of the left forearm or the back of the hand, and smaller than ¼ of that part. Religious symbols, figures and names are allowed, as in the Indian Army.

Selection stages

  1. Scrutiny of your online application and the sports certificate you uploaded. Eligible candidates get an online admit card.
  2. Documentation: identity check with biometrics, then all original certificates (age, education, caste, sports, domicile, relaxation proofs). You submit self-attested copies on the spot.
  3. Physical Standard Test (PST): height, chest and weight for men; height and weight for women. Women submit a self-declaration about pregnancy. A pregnant candidate is declared temporarily unfit, her post is kept reserved, and she is re-tested six weeks after confinement.
  4. Sports Trial Test: 40 marks, qualifying only (minimum 20). These marks do not count in the merit list. If you represented India in the Indian squad at an international event with Sports Ministry clearance, you are exempt. There is no appeal for a re-trial.
  5. Merit list in each sport, from the sports-achievement marks table, used to shortlist for the medical exam.
  6. Detailed Medical Examination (DME). If declared unfit, you can ask for a Review Medical Examination by signing the Annexure VII consent within 24 hours. The RME is usually the next day, and its decision is final.

Application fee

Candidate Fee
Men: Unreserved, OBC, EWS Rs 100
All women Nil
SC / ST Nil

Pay only through the ITBPF recruitment website. Payment by any other mode gets the application rejected, and the fee is not refunded under any circumstances.

How to apply

  1. Go to recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in and create your profile.
  2. Upload your sports certificate in the profile first. Upload the certificate for your highest medal, position or level of participation in the advertised sport, for the period 1 January 2024 to 1 November 2026. If it is not uploaded before you apply, the application is rejected at scrutiny.
  3. Fill the Constable (GD) Sports Quota-2025 form. Choose your sport and event carefully, and give a working email ID and mobile number.
  4. If you claim lower height or chest, attach the Annexure VI certificate.
  5. Pay Rs 100 if you are a male UR/OBC/EWS candidate, then submit before 1 November 2026, 11:59 PM.
  6. Print the submitted form. You must carry a clear printout to documentation, PST and the medical. Without it you are not let into the venue, and ITBPF keeps the printout.
  7. Keep several copies of the same passport photo you used in the form. You need four for documentation and the same photo at every stage.

Documents to carry (originals plus self-attested copies)

  • Printout of the submitted online application.
  • Class 10 (Matriculation) certificate for date of birth, and other educational certificates.
  • Sports certificates in the right Form (1, 2, 3 or 5) for the achievement you claimed.
  • Domicile certificate from the local revenue authorities. West Pakistani Refugees settled in J&K or Ladakh use Annexure VI(A).
  • Caste certificates only in the notice’s formats: OBC as Annexure III (obtained within three years before 1 November 2026) with the III(A) declaration, SC/ST as Annexure IV, and EWS as Annexure V valid for 2025-26.
  • Annexure VI for height or chest relaxation, if claimed.
  • No Objection Certificate (Annexure II) in original if you are a government employee. Without it you are rejected at documentation.
  • Four recent passport-size photos, the same as in the application.

Rejection traps

  • Not uploading the sports certificate in your profile before applying. This is the most direct route to rejection at scrutiny.
  • A certificate from before 1 January 2024, or one at a level outside the marks table.
  • Counting national-level participation. Below the international level, only medals or places up to 3rd score marks.
  • Wrong format: a sports certificate not signed by the authority in the right Form, or caste certificates not in the Annexure formats.
  • An old OBC certificate, obtained more than three years before 1 November 2026.
  • Forgetting Annexure VI with the application if you need lower height or chest.
  • Wearing glasses for daily use. Vision must meet 6/6 and 6/9 unaided.
  • Tattoos on the right forearm, or bigger than ¼ of the part.
  • Changing category later. ITBPF does not allow it and cancels the candidature.
  • Leaving the venue without telling anyone, false statements, forged papers or impersonation. Any of these cancels the candidature, and ITBPF may report it to the police.
  • Paying an agent. The notice says no money is needed except the application fee (or the RME fee). Report anyone asking for money to the Recruitment Board or the local police.

Pay and service conditions

  • Pay: Level 3, Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100 (7th CPC), plus dearness allowance, ration money, washing allowance, special compensatory allowance in specified border areas, free uniform, free accommodation or HRA, transport allowance, free leave pass and free medical facilities.
  • Pension: the National Pension System for central government entrants since 1 January 2004.
  • Posting: anywhere in India or abroad. The post is temporary, likely to become permanent, under the ITBPF Act 1992 and Rules 1994.
  • Minimum service of 10 years. Resigning earlier means refunding three months’ pay and allowances or the training cost, whichever is higher.
  • Performance review: if a sportsperson does not give the expected results, they are offered a merger into the regular GD cadre or discharge, as per rules.
  • No travel allowance for coming to the recruitment venue. Be ready to stay more than one day at your own arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the last date to apply for the ITBP Constable GD sports quota?

1 November 2026, 11:59 PM. Applications opened on 3 October 2026 at 00:01 AM and are accepted only online at recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in.

How many posts are there?

126 tentative posts, 72 for men and 54 for women, spread over 28 sports disciplines. ITBPF says the number can go up or down, and that posts in a sport with no suitable candidates can be shifted to other advertised sports.

Is there a written exam?

No. The merit list is made from the marks the notice gives for your single best medal, position or participation between 1 January 2024 and 1 November 2026. Before that you go through documents and a physical standard test, and a sports trial that you only need to pass (20 out of 40). After the merit list comes the medical exam.

What is the age limit?

18 to 23 years on 1 November 2026. All sportspersons get relaxation: 5 years for Unreserved, EWS and OBC, 8 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) and 10 years for SC and ST. That makes the top age 28, 31 or 33. Only the date of birth on your Class 10 or Class 12 certificate is accepted.

Does National Games participation without a medal count?

No. In the marks table, participation counts only for international events. For National Games, Senior and Junior Nationals, Inter-University, Khelo India University Games and Khelo India Youth or Winter Games, you need a medal or a place up to 3rd.

Who pays the application fee?

Only male candidates of the Unreserved, OBC and EWS categories pay Rs 100, online through the ITBPF recruitment website. Women and SC/ST candidates pay nothing. The fee is never refunded.

Can ex-servicemen or persons with disabilities apply?

No. The notice says these vacancies are not open to physically challenged persons or ex-servicemen.

Is there a minimum service period?

Yes. Selected candidates must serve at least 10 years. Anyone who resigns earlier must refund three months' pay and allowances or the cost of their training, whichever is higher.
