We’ll update this page from the official detailed notification.

Syllabus in brief

Paper I: General Studies & Mental Ability (SSC standard)

General science and contemporary science and technology, current events of national importance and of AP, history and geography of India with an AP focus, polity, economy and rural development, reasoning, sustainable development, and disaster management (earthquakes, cyclones, tsunami, floods, drought, man-made disasters).

Paper II: ITI (Civil Draughtsman)

  1. Drawing: the BIS code of practice for architectural and building drawings (IS: 962-1989), layout, lines, lettering, dimensioning, scales and projection
  2. Surveying: principles, classification, chaining, bearings and meridians, planimeter, pantograph
  3. Levelling: auto level, levelling staffs, adjustments, datum and benchmarks, reduction of levels, contouring (methods, interpolation, gradient, uses of contour maps)
  4. Theodolite survey: parts, adjustments, horizontal and vertical angles, repetition and reiteration, latitude and departure, traversing (open and closed), closing error, base line and triangulation terms
  5. Total station: components, EDM principle, setting up and measurement, coordinate systems, open and closed traverse
  6. GPS: coordinate and time systems, signals and biases, survey methods, plus remote sensing, photogrammetry, aerial photography and satellite images
  7. Workshop calculation:
    • units (MKS, FPS, CGS, SI) and conversions;
    • fractions and decimals, algebra (linear and quadratic equations);
    • geometry of sections, mensuration (areas, surface areas, volumes), trigonometry and logarithms;
    • areas of irregular figures (end, mid and average ordinate rules), and the trapezoidal and Simpson’s rules for areas and volumes.

How to prepare

  • Paper II is your ITI syllabus. Revise surveying, levelling and theodolite from your ITI notes. Contouring, traverse closing error and the trapezoidal and Simpson’s rules are calculation-heavy, so practise them.
  • Learn IS: 962-1989 basics for drawing conventions: line types, lettering and dimensioning.
  • Total station and GPS are named separately, so don’t skip the theory of EDM and GPS signals.
  • Paper I is SSC level. Read AP current affairs and basic polity. Negative marking means you should skip questions you can’t narrow down.
  • Get your OTPR ready on psc.ap.gov.in before 16 October, and check that your ITI details are entered correctly.
