Vacancies by category
All 41 posts are state-wide, so there is no local or zonal reservation.
| OC | EWS | BC-A | BC-B | BC-C | BC-D | BC-E | SC-I | SC-II | SC-III | ST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 13 | 5 + 1 CF | 2 | 5 | – | 4 | 2 | – | 2 | 4 | 3 | 40 + 1 CF |
CF means carried forward from an earlier recruitment.
Posts for women (inside the figures above): 12. That is OC 4, SC-II 1, SC-III 1, ST 1, BC-B 2, BC-D 1, BC-E 1 and EWS 1.
Meritorious sportspersons: 2 posts under the 3% sports quota.
These are horizontal reservations, so women and sportspersons from every category can apply. A person selected under them is counted in their own social category. BC, SC, ST and EWS candidates from other states get no reservation and are treated as open category.
Can you apply?
Qualification: you must have passed one of these:
- B.E. or B.Tech in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering from a recognised university, or
- Sections A and B of the AMIE (India) Civil examination.
Important points:
- The date of the notification, 6 October 2026, is the crucial date. You must already hold the degree on that day. Final-year students who are still waiting for results are not eligible.
- Distance-mode B.E./B.Tech is accepted only if the course is approved by AICTE.
- Other branches, such as ECE, EEE or Computer Science, are not in the list.
- You must be an Indian citizen, in sound health and of good character.
- If you already work in government service or an aided institution, you must inform your head of office in writing that you have applied.
Age: 18 to 44 on 1 July 2026
By our arithmetic, this means a date of birth between 2 July 1981 and 1 July 2008, before any relaxation.
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, BC, EWS | 5 years (up to 49) |
| Persons with benchmark disabilities | 10 years (up to 54) |
| Ex-servicemen, NCC instructors | Service in the armed forces or NCC plus 3 years is deducted from your age, but the result must stay within 44 |
| Regular A.P. State Government employees | Regular service is deducted from your age, up to 5 years (corporation and municipal staff are not covered) |
| Retrenched temporary staff of the State Census Department (at least 6 months’ service) | 3 years |
The “up to” ages in brackets are our arithmetic. Ex-servicemen released by dismissal or discharge for misconduct or inefficiency do not get the relaxation.
Application fee
| Candidate | Processing fee | Exam fee | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| OC and others | Rs 250 | Rs 80 | Rs 330 |
| SC, ST, BC, PBD, ex-servicemen | Rs 250 | Exempt | Rs 250 |
| AP families with a white ration card (household supply card) | Rs 250 | Exempt | Rs 250 |
| Unemployed youth (declaration needed later) | Rs 250 | Exempt | Rs 250 |
| Candidates from other states (except PBD and ex-servicemen) | Rs 250 | Rs 80 | Rs 330 |
Pay online by net banking, credit card or debit card only. Demand drafts and postal orders are not accepted, and the fee is never refunded.
Exam pattern
The exam is an online Computer Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) at degree standard, in four centres: Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapuramu. You choose three centre preferences in the form.
| Paper | Subject | Questions | Minutes | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper I | General Studies & Mental Ability | 150 | 150 | 150 |
| Paper II | Subject paper (environmental engineering) | 150 | 150 | 150 |
| Total | 300 |
- Negative marking: each wrong answer loses 1/3 of that question’s marks.
- Paper I is in English and Telugu, with the English version final. Paper II is in English only.
- You must appear in both papers. Missing either one disqualifies you.
- If the exam runs in more than one session, scores are normalised and results are given as percentiles.
- An initial answer key is published after the exam. You have 3 days to object, at Rs 100 per objection, which is refunded if the objection is upheld.
Minimum qualifying marks (aggregate):
| Category | Minimum |
|---|---|
| OC, sportspersons, ex-servicemen, EWS | 40% |
| BC | 35% |
| SC, ST, PBD | 30% |
Reaching the minimum does not guarantee selection. It only makes you eligible to be considered.
Syllabus in brief
Paper I: General Studies & Mental Ability
- Current events (international, national, Andhra Pradesh) and general science, including science and IT developments
- History of India with a focus on AP and the national movement
- Geography of India and AP

- Disaster management, including remote sensing and GIS
- Logical reasoning and data analysis (tables, charts, mean, median, mode, variance)
Paper II: Subject paper (10 units)
- Ecosystems: food chains, energy flow, biogeochemical cycles, biomagnification
- Natural resources: water, minerals, land, forests, energy
- Biodiversity and its conservation, including the National Biodiversity Act
- Engineering materials: properties, phase diagrams, heat treatment, stress–strain
- Fluid mechanics and hydraulics: Bernoulli, Reynolds number, Darcy–Weisbach, dimensional analysis
- Process calculations and thermodynamics: mass and energy balances, recycle, bypass, purge

The paper mixes civil topics (hydraulics, wastewater), mechanical topics (materials, thermodynamics) and chemical topics (process calculations). Whatever your branch, plan extra time for the units from the other two.
Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)
After the written exam, the candidates shortlisted by APPSC must pass a practical computer test. It is qualifying only.
| Duration | Marks | Pass mark: SC/ST/PBD | BC | OC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 minutes | 100 | 30 | 35 | 40 |
What is tested:
| Part | Weight |
|---|---|
| Part A: multiple-choice questions on computer basics, Windows, Linux, internet and email | 20% |
| Word document: typing speed | 25% |
| Word document: formatting and inserting tables, images, WordArt, mail merge | 15% |
| Excel sheet with formulas, conditional formatting and charts | 20% |
| PowerPoint presentation with transitions and animation | 20% |
The notice says the typing-speed part may be made mandatory for qualifying. Practise typing and basic Excel formulas before the exam date.
How selection works
- Written exam (Paper I + Paper II, 300 marks) with negative marking.
- Computer Proficiency Test for shortlisted candidates, qualifying only.
- Certificate verification.
- Medical fitness.
There is no interview. Final selection is on written-exam merit, if you pass the CPT. There is also no waiting list, so posts are filled only from the notified vacancies.
Tie rule: when marks are equal, the older candidate ranks higher. If the age is also equal, the one who got the qualification earlier ranks higher.
After the final list, marks of selected candidates are shown on the website, and every candidate can see their own marks in their login.
How to apply
- Go to psc.ap.gov.in. If you have never applied to APPSC, create your One Time Profile Registration (OTPR) first. Your user ID is sent to your mobile and email.
- Check your OTPR details carefully. Community, white-card, local status and similar details decide your fee and age relaxation, and cannot be changed after you pay. Use “Modify OTPR” before you start the application.
- Log in with your OTPR ID and click Online Application Submission, then Fill Application against Notification No. 08/2026.
- Fill in your qualification, three exam-centre preferences and other details. Upload your own photo and signature in JPG.
- Click Save & Submit, not just “Save”. Only Save & Submit opens the payment page.
- Pay the fee. You get a payment reference ID by SMS. Download the filled application PDF and keep it.
- If the payment fails, start a fresh payment from step 3.
Corrections: for 7 days after 27 October you can fix entries at Rs 100 per correction. Name, fee and age-relaxation fields cannot be corrected.
Rejection traps
- Degree not complete by 6 October 2026. The date of the notification is the cut-off, not the last date to apply.
- Wrong branch. Only Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or AMIE Civil Sections A and B, count.
- Distance B.Tech without AICTE approval.
- BC Non-Creamy Layer certificate dated before 1 April 2026. It must be issued by the Tahsildar on or after 1 April 2026 and no later than 27 October 2026.
- EWS certificate not for FY 2025-26, not in digital format, or issued before 1 April 2026. Family income must be below Rs 8 lakh.
- Clicking only “Save”. The application is not submitted until you click Save & Submit and pay.
- Wrong details in OTPR. Fee and age data are taken from OTPR when you pay and cannot be changed later.
- Skipping a paper. Absence in either paper disqualifies you.
- Changing your look. You may have to show the same photo at verification, so don’t change your appearance until the process is over.
- Carrying a phone or smartwatch, even switched off. It is banned, and safe-keeping at the centre is not guaranteed.
- False information. It can lead to a debarment of up to five years from APPSC exams.
