  • If your university gives CGPA, you need a certificate from the university showing its conversion rule and your percentage.
  • The result must be declared on or before 1 October 2026. The date on the mark sheet or provisional certificate is taken as the date of passing.
  • Degrees must be from UGC-approved universities or AICTE-approved institutes.

Each section is separately timed, and you must pass every section. About 15 times the number of vacancies in each category are shortlisted for Phase II.

Phase II: Main exam, 22 December

Generalists, objective test (3 hours, 250 marks):

Section Questions / Marks Time
Reasoning 50 40 min
General Awareness 50 30 min
Quantitative Aptitude 50 40 min
English Language 50 40 min
Computer Knowledge 50 30 min

Specialists, objective test (3 hours, 250 marks):

General Awareness 40 20 min
Quantitative Aptitude 40 35 min
English Language 40 30 min
Computer Knowledge 40 25 min
Professional knowledge of your discipline 50 35 min

Descriptive English test (30 marks, 30 minutes) right after the objective test:

  • an essay (10 marks), a précis (10) and a comprehension (10);
  • you type the answers on the computer;
  • it is qualifying only, so its marks do not count for merit.

Rules for both phases:

  • Negative marking: each wrong answer costs one-fourth of that question’s marks. A blank answer costs nothing.
  • Medium: every objective section except English is in English and Hindi.
  • Cut-offs: you must clear each section’s cut-off in the Mains objective test before your descriptive paper is even checked.

Interview and final selection

  1. Candidates shortlisted on their Mains objective score, who have also passed the descriptive test, are called for an interview.
  2. Final merit = Mains objective (80%) + Interview (20%). You must also pass the interview’s minimum marks.
  3. Tie-break: higher interview marks first, then the older candidate.
  4. A waiting list of up to 50% of the vacancies may be kept.
  5. Appointment depends on medical fitness.

Documents for the interview:

  • a printout of the interview call letter;
  • originals and photocopies of age, qualification and category certificates;
  • an EWS certificate for FY 2025-26, issued after 31 March 2026;
  • a No Objection Certificate if you are already employed in government or a PSU.

Pre-exam training: SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and PwBD candidates can opt for online pre-exam training while applying. You attend at your own cost, and training does not guarantee a job.

Rejection traps

  • 59.99% is not 60%. Check your aggregate across all semesters before you pay.
  • The result was declared after 1 October 2026. The date on your mark sheet decides it.
  • Applying in two disciplines: only the latest application is kept, and the other fees are lost.
  • Signature or declaration in capital letters, or a declaration written by someone else or not in English.
  • Signature mismatch: if your signature at the exam doesn’t match the upload, you are disqualified.
  • A name that doesn’t match your ID exactly on the call letter. If you changed your name, for example after marriage, bring the original gazette notification, marriage certificate or affidavit.
  • The wrong OBC category: creamy-layer OBCs must apply as Unreserved.
  • No EWS certificate for FY 2025-26 dated after 31 March 2026.
  • Ignoring the bond. Resigning early is expensive, so read the bond terms first.
