Fresh passport vs renewal — keep them straight

Fresh issue, re-issue, and tatkaal follow different fee rows on Passport Seva. The online form is only the first half; you still complete appointment / Police verification steps the portal assigns. If a shop offers “passport without appointment,” walk away.

Fee tables change. Open the fee link inside our passport fee guide and confirm onpassportindia.gov.in before you pay. Annexures for minors, ECR, or name change are easy to miss when you rush the form.

What to keep ready

  • Address proofs that match what Passport Seva lists for your case
  • Old passport booklets for re-issue (and damage explanation if asked)
  • Annexure formats downloaded from the official site, not from a random blog PDF

Quick questions

Is tatkaal always faster?

Only when you meet tatkaal document rules and the PSK gives a slot. Paying tatkaal fee without documents wastes money.

Can Easy Applications submit my file?

No. File on Passport Seva only.

Common problems

  • Paid, but nothing shows. Use Track Payment Status on the next business day before you pay again.
  • Money deducted, payment marked failed. Passport Seva's FAQ says SBI refunds these within seven working days.
  • Need a different appointment date. A normal appointment can be rescheduled twice within a year of the first date; a Tatkal one only once.
  • Paid a while ago. A payment stays valid for one year from the payment date, or from your first appointment date if you booked one.
  • Anything else. Use the grievance page on Passport Seva or the toll-free line 1800-258-1800. Details are in our apply guide.
