How learner’s licence usually works

Most people need a learner’s licence before the permanent DL. On Sarathi you pick the state, create / log into the account, fill the form, book the LL test slot where the state asks for it, and carry the printed application plus ID on the day. Rules for age, medical form (1 / 1A), and which class of vehicle you can pick are state-notified — the portal text beats any WhatsApp tip.

Permanent DL comes later after the waiting period and tests your state requires. If someone DMs you “skip LL, get DL by post,” that is a scam pattern. Stay on sarathi.parivahan.gov.in/ Parivahan.

Documents people forget

  • Proof of age and address that the state list actually accepts
  • Form 1 / 1A when the medical declaration is mandatory for your age or vehicle class
  • Passport photo in the size Sarathi shows (cropped selfies often fail)
  • Fee receipt / application printout for the RTO visit

Common mistakes

  • Choosing the wrong RTO or state on the first screen and paying twice
  • Using a middleman site that only mirrors Sarathi and adds a “service fee”
  • Missing the LL test slot and assuming the application stays open forever

Domicile / address rules differ. Read the state instructions on Sarathi before you pay. We cannot override RTO eligibility.
