Age and other conditions

Age: 18 to 24 years on 29 November 2026, i.e. born between 29.11.2002 and 29.11.2008.

Category Upper age limit
General / EWS 24
OBC (NCL) 27
SC / ST 29
PwBD 34 (OBC-NCL 37, SC/ST 39)

You are not eligible if:

  • you have already done, or are doing, an apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act;
  • you have one year or more of training or job experience after your qualification;
  • three years or more have passed since your qualifying exam as on 29 November 2026. If your mark sheet has no result date, get a certificate of the result date from your college.

Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD follows government rules; the notice doesn’t give category-wise seat numbers. There’s no application fee mentioned in the notice.

Selection process

  1. Merit list for each trade and work centre, based on the marks in your qualifying examination. Ties go to the older candidate.
  2. Document verification for shortlisted candidates (list on ONGC’s apprentice website and/or by email). Bring originals and self-attested copies: date-of-birth proof, mark sheets and certificates, ITI/diploma/degree, caste or PwBD certificate if claimed, ID proof and your NAPS/NATS registration details.
  3. Final merit list and engagement: results are due on 15 December 2026 on ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in. Selected candidates complete the contract on NAPS or NATS and must be medically fit. If someone doesn’t report, the next candidate on merit is called.

How to apply for ONGC Apprentice 2026

Each trade is listed as either NAPS or NATS in the seat tables. Apply on the matching portal:

  • NAPS trades (ITI, 10th/12th, most “Oil & Gas” executive trades): register and apply on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
  • NATS trades (Accounts Executive, Store Keeper, the “(Graduate)” engineering executives, Petroleum Executive, Civil Executive): register and apply on nats.education.gov.in.

Steps:

  1. Check that your district is eligible for the work centre (table above).
  2. Register on the right portal and fill in your qualification and marks carefully.
  3. Search for ONGC, choose the work centre and trade, and apply by 20 November 2026.
  4. Keep checking your email (including spam), the portal and ONGC’s apprentice website.

Queries: ongc_skilldev@ongc.co.in. Don’t send anything by post; only online applications count.

Points to check

  • Southern Sector total: the notice prints it as 269, but its four work centres add up to 267 (Chennai 40 + Kakinada 76 + Karaikal 98 + Rajahmundry 53). The Grand Total of 3,047 matches 267, so 269 looks like a misprint.
  • Rajahmundry districts: Annexure 1 lists Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari. It doesn’t say how it treats the districts formed from them in 2022 (such as NTR, Eluru, Kakinada and Konaseema). If you live in one of those, check with ONGC (ongc_skilldev@ongc.co.in) before relying on Rajahmundry. Kakinada, which takes all AP districts, is unaffected.
  • OVL Delhi (20 seats) has no entry in Annexure 1’s district list.
  • Repeated rows: Hazira lists “Mechanical Executive (Graduate)” twice (11 and 10 seats), and Vadodara lists “Electronics Mechanic” twice (2 and 1). The rows still add up to the stated subtotals.
  • Fire Safety Technician appears twice in the qualification table, as “ITI in relevant trade” and as “12th class or ITI (two years after class 10th)”. Check what the portal accepts for your qualification.
  • Last date and cut-off differ: applications close on 20 November, but age and the three-year rule are counted on 29 November 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the last date to apply for ONGC Apprentice 2026?

20 November 2026. Applications opened on 29 October 2026 on the NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) for NAPS trades and the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) for NATS trades. ONGC plans to announce the result on 15 December 2026.

Is there an exam for ONGC Apprentice?

No. ONGC makes a merit list for each trade and work centre from the marks in your qualifying examination (10th, 12th, ITI, diploma or degree as the trade requires), then calls shortlisted candidates for document verification. If marks are tied, the older candidate goes first.

Can I apply from any state?

No. You can apply only for a work centre whose eligible districts (Annexure 1) include your district of residence (domicile) or the district where you obtained your qualification. For example, Kakinada takes all districts of Andhra Pradesh, while Rajahmundry takes Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari.

What is the ONGC apprentice stipend?

Per month: Rs 12,300 for graduates (B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, B.E, B.Tech), Rs 10,900 for three-year diploma holders, Rs 10,560 for two-year ITI, Rs 9,600 for one-year ITI and Rs 8,200 for 10th/12th-pass trade apprentices. Training lasts 12 months, and no travel, boarding or lodging is paid.

I passed in 2023. Am I eligible?

Only if you have not completed three years since passing the qualifying exam as on 29 November 2026; the notice gives that as a cut-off. You are also ineligible if you have already done an apprenticeship or have one year or more of training or job experience after your qualification.

Does ONGC give a job after apprenticeship?

No. The notice says ONGC has no obligation to offer regular employment during or after the apprenticeship; apprentices are relieved after the 12 months.
